The above painting was done as a study of Cezanne's brushwork. I chose it
because his original painting seemed to have shapes which I could rearrange and
adapt into subtle suggestions of heart shapes, my own whimsical choice.
Artistic tradition finds painters making studies of the masters, but this is
the first time I have done so. A remarkable way to get inside the thoughts
of a master painter.
